Running sfc scannow windows xp

Annoying, YES! Is there a workaround YES! After doing this I then modify the registry to tell it the source path for these files But the I folder also contains many other files that are sometimes needed by the operating system and this stops those requests for the XP CD too!

NB - With today's large hard drives you are not going to notice this MB folder on your computer, but older systems may not have the space for this Hope you realised that was a cross post!

So XP prof SP3 - with automatic updates enabled and been gets lots recently -hopefully so is everyone else! Some Trusteer Rapport thing recommended by two banks I deal with Yes it has an internal CD drive XP disc the the Dell version -it is labelled as the opertating system disk with SP1 - they also gave me another one - for drivers etc so not sure if it is a recovery disc - don't have another version As i said little niggles Plenty of space on the hard drive So any advice gratefully received In reply to Lusi83's post on December 20, I thought you planned on giving this PC to your kids in a couple months.

Therefore, this old PC that is going to the kids will have a fresh install of XP with no fragmentation at all. If you are still interested in improving performance for the time being, here's my usual cut-and-paste regarding the usual causes of sluggishness:. In reply to Daavee's post on December 20, Sorry for slow reply - really nasty head cold and christmas chaos.. First Joselbarra - I will look at the bleeping computer way of slipstreaming I tried one manually and one using nlite - and neither worked - I am also trying to get hold of a XP prof disc SP3 through freegle Daavee Sorry I think I might have been being dense - I'm trying to get a quick solution - so I can organise this data now - and the PC is giving me grief - making it really tricky Guess it just would be nice to give them a clean install Got rid of Mcafee for that very reason - now use Avast - do need to get rid of XoftspySE - that is annoying me - but I had problems before I got that I'm going to have to look at this when my head is clearer Thank you everyone for your help On the troubled XP machine, a couple of diag boot disks will run to completion, indicating the CD drive works - at least part of time.

No err msgs. Anyways, OP, if you're having trouble getting bootable utilities to run, I'd strongly recommend a memory test as originally suggested. So, some boot disks will run - others won't. Some said it then ran, even though comments indicated they didn't have IDE drives. Aside from trying that, may need to find a 3rd party HDD diag util to run from boot. ISO which you can burn.
