Sort order. Jun 11, Kate Givans rated it liked it. But, since I had already purchased it before I read the first book, I decided to give the second book a go. I am so glad I did! In Brown Eyes, we follow Ana through her transition into full understanding of who she is and was.
We also watch her commit to her purpose. Her choices in love are much more difficult — she realizes just how much she loves Darren, but still feels a deep, soulful connection with Tristan. While there were still a few typos in Brown Eyes, it was nothing compared to the first book. The story flowed much better; gone were the paragraphs that I had to try and make sense of. I also felt that the twists and turns in this book were ALL believable and transitions from one scene to the next were notably smoother in Brown Eyes.
All in all, I would say that Brown Eyes definitely redeemed the trilogy for me. I was excited to read the third book. In fact, I started it the very same night I finished Brown Eyes. Apr 21, Erik rated it it was ok. It's almost difficult to read through all the typos. Jun 28, Kasaundra Snow rated it liked it. Where to start? This book left me wanting SO much more than what it gave.
I was excited to learnt that only a week after I found and purchased "Grey Eyes" that the next book in the series would be out. I was very disappointed in this book. They are calling the series a Trilogy. The first book more than lived up to my expectations. However, this book was not at all what it was made out to be. As a novella, it had enough substance to be a full book, but in the interest of making money and try Wow. As a novella, it had enough substance to be a full book, but in the interest of making money and trying to get the book out so soon, too soon I'm afraid, they have compromised the story line as well as the ability for the reader to really follow the books without being let down.
The authors didn't expand on the characters. It was just push and jump from one scene to the next without feeling. And I'm still not so sure that after the "Grey Eyes" book being fully explained as the title for the previous, why this one was "Brown Eyes".
There isn't actually an explanation for anything in the book. It had tons of action, but no substance for any characters. And while it mentioned all characters, there wasn't anything to build from the last book. This is not a stand alone book. If you haven't read the first then don't bother. You'll never be able to follow along. View 1 comment. Nov 28, Jen rated it it was ok. Spoiler: If you haven't read the first one. I want to like this book, I really do. But I just can't handle the whole two souls in one body theme.
It seriously irks me. If you feel strongly that I might like the 3rd book despite my aversion and that it will all get better please let me know. I do hate not finishing a series. This is one of the first times I have actually stopped and not bothered to read the rest of the books.
Jul 18, Mary Lockett rated it it was ok. This is what I get for reading the 99 cent kindle downloads. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. You have been warned!!!!
I wasn't sure if I should give it five or four stars though. I decided to give it four you'll see why when you read towards the end of my review.
Felt so many emotions. Sad for Tristan, and many times wanted to smack Darren, surprised about the truth behind Ana's vision which made feel like a complete idiot and take back the thoughts I had about Darren though still he should be more understanding of how Ana felt , and a little heartbroken about the grandmother's cold treatment towards Ana after everyone found who Ana really is.
It was a bit intense. I didn't like the ending too much, I mean Darren dies but then he's not, and through some mystified means. How was he healed anyway? They didn't go into detail about that, but a certain vampire had a hand in that I mean I didn't want Darren to die in the first place, but something about him being brought back to life makes me uneasy Especially since a vampire was involved. And that line Leia says to Ana, "All that I ask is that when the time comes, you remember where your allegiance lies.
And to bring more anticipation Leia continues, "There are much bigger things at work than a silly rivalry between vampires and witches. There's more? Of course there's more. To find out what it is we'll have to read the next and final book to see. Jul 21, Annette M Guerriero Nishimoto rated it really liked it. This novella packed such a punch that for a minute I couldn't believe I had finished.
I found the story so dramatic that many times I found myself on the edge of my seat. Ana now has all of her memories back, and not to soon. The vampires are declaring war against the witches of Brighton in retaliation for the "murder" of one of their own.
And though she receives a message from London giving her three days before the attack, it seems the vampires have a timeline all their own. With the fate of Brighton weighing heavily on her, Ana chooses to leave the safety of the haven to possibly draw the vampires away. This however is not what happens in the end. Nearly all hope is lost as she makes contact with Darren and see's what's happening through his eyes.
Everyone is dying, even him. In the end she has done what she always has. She ran away with Tristan. There were quite a few mistakes in Brown Eyes that should have been picked up by the editor, and that is one of my pesky pet peeves. I actually can't wait for the next book to come out next month.
I hope it lives up to this one. Dec 15, Michelle rated it did not like it. I was very distracted by the grammar, spelling and syntax errors in this book. The story like was a combo of about six different series I have already read so it did not seem that original but there were many many errors in this book.
The third in the series did not have as many errors and the storyline kind of redeemed itself in the end but the series came off to me as kind of spoofy and this one actually had a line out of another series I will not name, swear to God.
I can understand what the I was very distracted by the grammar, spelling and syntax errors in this book. I can understand what the authors are trying to accomplish by doing it as an Ebook but please, if you ever actually publish this on paper have someone who knows grammar and syntax read it first. I am one of those people who don't use the abbreviations when texting so I might just be being a little harsh. Or, the, if, and, left out in places that they were required and many other words as well as sentences being constructed in improper order.
There were sentences that started one way and you could still tell what the point was but it annoys me and makes it difficult to concentrate on the story line. Please keep that in mind for your future series you have planned. Aug 28, Maureen Hoar rated it liked it. Very short and sweet! This book seems to be a bridge between the opening book and maybe the big finale.
A lot happens to Ana that changes her life forever. I am not sure that I would not have made the same choices as she did.
There was really no indication that some of the characters in the book had the abilities they had. I can not tell who is her friend or foe now. There are so many different characters that I forget who they all are. I guess I am saying I am totally lost in this story and I d Very short and sweet!
I guess I am saying I am totally lost in this story and I don't think there is any hope of me figuring it out anytime soon.
It truly has potential but I am so very lost. If heaven has abandoned her why does she not just do what she wants and hook up with Tristan??? Ana has chosen two destinies and she is being torn in two.
She has no support system anymore with London dead and her grandmother living in the past. Who does she trust? I have no idea who that would be. Maybe the next book will have the answers I seek! Apr 17, Na Deela rated it really liked it Shelves: fantasy , romance. Ok, so I'm glad this one wasn't so confusing and was much easier to follow. I'm glad the story started right where the first left off.
We got right down to business and straight into the action. One of the problems I had with this one was that at some point, we seemed to jump around a bit from one thing to another and I cant say much more than that without spoiling the story. The other problem was the ending. Again, trying to avoid a spoiler, I'm pretty irritated with the switch from one side to Ok, so I'm glad this one wasn't so confusing and was much easier to follow.
Again, trying to avoid a spoiler, I'm pretty irritated with the switch from one side to the other. It just isn't fair. I know, I know, life isn't fair, but still, really? Anyway, I still really like the story and hope book 3 brings about a satisfying resolution. I'm completely torn by what's happened so far Jun 16, Alexis rated it liked it. I was a little disappointed that this book was only 67 pages, but I heard the last book is a full length book.
Besides the length it was a solid book. I am getting a little sick of her switching her mind from Darren to Tristan. She is devoted to Darren; however the second she sees Tristan she suddenly would do anything to be with him.
I find that very hard to read, because, especially for myself, when the main character chooses someone to love it is much easier for the reader to love him too, bu I was a little disappointed that this book was only 67 pages, but I heard the last book is a full length book. The grammatical errors were minimal this book, unlike the first one. Aug 17, Kristyna rated it really liked it. Sometimes it has too much going on, angels, vamps, witches, etc.
Almost like the show True Blood not the books. Not her, too. Or was she here as part of some scheme her beloved uncle had plotted He gave a grim smile and tried to tell himself he welcomed this meeting. Unwelcome, memories of her as a young girl drifted through his mind, pulling at him. Her uncle, Professor Grisby, had lived with her family and served as a father to her and her siblings.
That was something with which he had no experience. The contrast between his last two visits had been startling. At the earlier one, her mother had been teaching her to dance. Emma had laughed. The sound struck Michael, reverberating through him and filling him with longing. Never had he shared an experience like that with his mother or father. One that changed his view of families forever, especially his own.
All that delight snuffed out. Those brown eyes dark with the weight of her shattered world. Her family sobbing around her as she alone held a fragile shell of composure. He pushed away the memories to deal with the present, bracing himself as he entered the drawing room.
It was now easier to expect nothing of anyone. A drab form perched on the edge of the armchair nearest the door. At his entrance, she bolted upright, betraying her nervousness.
She was dressed in grey from head to toe, the muted color giving her a mousy appearance. Her cheeks were thin, her brown eyes difficult to see behind her spectacles. He no longer owed anyone and intended to keep it that way.
Her cheeks pinkened at his sarcastic tone. At least that brought a sign of life to her dull appearance. Despite her thin face, it seemed as though she ate well enough based on the thickness of her figure. He mentally shook himself. None of that mattered. Her chin lifted and a spark shone in those brown eyes. My uncle provided tutoring to you on several occasions without payment.
I believe that was part of his position. She swallowed visibly and he thought he caught a glimmer of shame in her expression. Here it comes, he thought, bracing himself. The tragic story of their dire circumstances. However, he provided assistance to you far beyond that of a normal teacher. In exchange, we would ask you to provide a letter of reference. I am presently seeking a governess position with the Marchioness of Warkshire.
Michael folded his arms across his broad chest as he studied her. At times like this, he was almost grateful for his ability to read auras.
The damned skill had been bestowed on him ten years ago at university when her uncle, Professor Grisby, had conducted an electromagnetic experiment that went terribly wrong. Michael and two of his friends had been injured, but her uncle had paid the ultimate price—death.
Two weeks ago, evidence had come to light suggesting that either the professor truly had survived, or someone was playing a nasty joke. That was all he could see—success or failure of the endeavor a person was about to embark upon. A vision of her reprimanding one of her charges for misbehaving filled his mind. She was certainly no one with whom to be trifled. Her no-nonsense attitude combined with that husky voice made her an authority figure.
Her lips tightened as pink flooded her pale complexion again—something he was starting to look forward to. Ire pulsed through him. We both know there is no debt. She opened her mouth to protest but he held up his hand to stop her. Her eyes closed for the briefest moment, and she tipped her chin down as though saying a quick prayer. He could see her brows arched nicely now that the frame of her glasses was out of the way. Ridiculously long dark lashes closed over her eyes. Her slim nose tipped up the tiniest bit at the end.
Those eyes opened and held his gaze for the space of a heartbeat. The simple statement of gratitude made him feel petty for considering denying her request.
